  17. The IEEE MSS&TC Data Management Specialist Workshop project
  18. committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan 20th at Scripps
  19. Institute in San Diego. We will meet in the Martin Johnson House
  20. (building T-29).  There will be no registration fee, however,
  21. there will be a parking fee. Parking permits are required and can
  22. be bought at the Management Site (building T-29) for $8.00 (all
  23. day) and $4.00 (half day). I will fax a map to folks that confirm
  24. there attendance.

  33. The IEEE Mass Storage Systems and Technology Technical Committee
  34. is sponsoring a series of specialist workshops on data management.
  35.  
  36. The purpose of the specialist workshop series is to
  37.  
  38.   1. Discuss the need for standards (std I/Fs) between data
  39.      management systems and storage systems.
  40.  
  41.   2. Discuss the relationship between
  42.  
  43.      Data Access,
  44.      Data Format,
  45.      Data Organization, and
  46.      Storage Systems
  47.  
  48.   3. Make a recommendation to the IEEE about the need for new
  49.      standards (or about the lack of need).
  50.  
  51.   Areas of particular interest include:

  53.   1. Data management systems and storage systems requirement for
  54.      parallel processing
  55.  
  56.   2. Data Management issues associated with analysis and
  57.      interpretation of large interdisciplinary, complex data bases
