- I've got about twenty replies to my request for US universities, that have
- graduate schools, that offer courses about neural nets. My informations so far:
-
- Boston University
- Center for Adaptive Systems:
- Grossberg, Carpenter, Bullock, Cohen, Mignolla are some of the
- professors teaching there.
- Very strong in the theory of ANS.
-
- Boulder, Col.
- offers two or three courses that deal with NN, for instance "connectionst
- approach to AI",
- Mozer and Smellensky teach,
- estimated annual costs are $19'000,
- Deadline for internation students for the Fall Term is Dec 1st
-
- Bloomington, Indiana
- is very strong in cognitive science (Hofstaedter is prof.) and offers
- courses about NN
-
- University of Calif., Los Angelos
- is recommended by some replicants (no, that's not the right word, repliers?)
- Deadline is Jan 15.
-
- Caltech
- is recommended
- highly competitive (6-10 ppl per year, <10% acceptance rate)
- tuition and books are $15000, but help is easy to get
- Deadline is Jan 15 ("but they are understanding")
-
- Southern Methodis University (near Dallas, Tx.)
- offers two NN courses, one more CS, one more EE
-
- Washington State
- offers an NN course, held by two competent persons
- the Univ. is near Univ. of Idaho, therefor switching Univ. is easy
-
- Corvallis, Oregon
- offers a NN course
- estimated annual costs are $13300
- Deadline is May (or later)
-
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- Offers one course in neural networks and one in fuzzy logic. Work focuses
- on machine vision (aside note: UNC is considered by many to be the #1 school
- in graphics). Dr Jonathan Marshall is the focal point for their neural
- network efforts. He is a former student of Grossberg. CS program is for
- graduate students only. Most NN work is independent study/RA.
-
- University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)
- Several researchers using neural networks, spread over several
- departments. There was a class last semester on neural
- networks in the CS department, but it's a special topics
- class, so it may not be permanent. There is a permanent class
- in machine learning and pattern recognition that includes both
- symbolic and connectionist approaches. EE may have classes as
- well. Professors: Ahuja, Huang, Rendell, Ray, Hutchinson,
- Ponce, Bradshaw, and more.

-
- Please mail further informations (or comments, because all the listed
- data is NOT official data).
