- As a follow up to my previous posting:
-
- I am interested in pursuing a PhD in AI but live in a rather out of
- the way locale, which makes access to a decent (actually to any)
- PhD program in AI quite difficult. I have looked at some of the
- non-traditional offerings from places like NOVA University ($6000)/year)
- and Mind Extension University (no PhD programs) etc but have not
- found anything yet. Have contacted some of the graduate student
- coordinators at some univserites (oops) but have mostly recieved
- "Sorry full-time on campus only" types of messages. I realize that
- pursuing a PhD is much different and more difficult than recieving
- a Masters (I beleive one individual put it "Its more like an
- apprenticeship than an education). But, why is it that now no one
- has found a way to set up a non-traditional approach to a PhD for
- fully employeed people. I mean, I cannot simply quit my job and
- wander off to some university for 4 or 5 years and work on a degree
- (and before I get flamed - I raealize that a lot of people have
- done exactly that and they have sacrificed a great deal in order
- to get their degree. Why can't we have both???).
-
- Anyway, I will quite rambling. Any body have any thoughts or other
- ideas?
