- When the founding fathers talked about "equality", they meant equality under
- the law, not equal treatment by individuals. When one allows the concept of
- "equality" to apply to government-mandated treatment by individuals, the
- door is opened to all kinds of perverted and dangerous ideas. To wit: Jesse
- Jackson's championing "Comparable Worth" legislation, whereby a bunch of
- bureaucrats determine, via an arbitrarily defined set of guidelines, the
- relative value to society of various professions. If it is determined, for
- example, that a teacher is more valuable than a construction worker but is
- paid less, this is sufficient grounds for a discrimination lawsuit.
-
- BTW, also when the founding fathers talked about "equality", they meant
- equality for white males only.
