- Hi! Just wanted to let y'all know I'm back in Melbourne. As usual, I'm
- behind on SEDS stuff (attack of the relatives at Christmas kept me from
- getting work done--AAARRRGGGHHH!).
-
- I could REALLY use some help on some stuff. SEDS-FL still hasn't completed
- the proposal for its Education Outreach Program, but it should be done fairly
- soon. In the meantime, we are going to start working on it at the first
- meetinng
- of Florida Tech SEDS. We have ten weeks in which to complete six-hour seminars
- on the following topics: weather satellite receiver stations, HAM radio oper
- operations, ecologoy/aquaculture, SCUBA, introduction to aviation, observational
- astronomy/planetarium operation, model rocketry/rocket design, How to Become an
- Astronaut and Other Space Careers, Why Support Space Programs?, Space Policy,
- Business, & Law; Space Engineering Design (w/contest?), Space Experiment
- Design--
- GAS cans to Sounding Rockets; Space and the Visual and Performing Arts; Space
- Life Sciences, Space Psychology, Space Education Programs, Space History,
- International Space Programs: A Comparison, and Computer Science and Space.
- I know that some of you are working on GAS cans, etc. and have information on
- a lot of the above topics.
-
- PLEASE, folks, if you have contact names or general information on the above
- areas, please e-mail this stuff to me or mail it to me at:
-
- P.O. Box 1717
- Melbourne, FL 32902-1717
-
- I can also be reached at:
- (407) 676 - 4573
- if you have questions.
-
- These seminar programs will be held initially at the junior/high school level,
- but we hope to extend this program throughout Florida to elementary schools/
- retirement centers/community centers and everywhere else possible. This is
- a SEDS-FL project, but once we get our seminar formats together, we could
- make materials available at the National level. If other chapters are
- interested
- in helping out with the curriculums, etc. or just initiating this as a SEDS
- National project, it would be great. However, I'm sure that each chapter
- may want to modify presentations a little.
-
- Also, Col. Gordon Cooper will be speaking at Riverview High School sometime
- in May. I should hear within two weeks on the exact date. He has given
- SEDS permission to use this as an opportunity to obtain publicity for our
- organization. May 15, 1993 is the 30th anniversary of Mercury 9, the last
- Mercury program flight (Cooper's flight). I would like to try to think of
- some good reasons to get CNN down to Riverview High School to feature Col.
- Cooper, space education, RHS programs (RHS has a planetarium, weather satellite
- receiver station, radio telescope, and 8-inch optical telescope), and SEDS!!!!
- We have a while to plan this, so if you have ideas on how to best honor a
- Mercury astronaut and hype SEDS as much as possible, please let me know!
- WE NEED INPUT!!!!!
-
- I need to go catch up on stuff. Debbie, thanks for the Christmas message! :^)
- Jeff, thanks for your patience--when is the next NOVA deadline? :^)
-
- I NEED JANUARY BIRTHDAYS! :^) Send 'em to my account, folks. :^)
-
- Take care, and let's make this a terrific year!
- Amy :^)
