- I thought my reply to John Abercrombie (whose request I had forwarded
- to the list) should also be communicated to the whole list. I
- fully understand people in distress, naturally, and I do not
- expect everybody to be a NB wizard. However, people must remember
- that this is a voluntary group, consisting of people who are
- as busy as them. If a query does not get a reply from anybody,
- this should not create a spirit of resentment. I appreciate the
- high rate of responsiveness on this list, but one cannot expect
- others to invest hours of labour to solve one's particular
- problem. It would be nice, of course, to have the information
- Melammed needs, and make it available to everybody.

- Dear Colleague,
-
- I have forwarded your note to the NOTABENE electronic user group.
-
- To answer your question, one has to invest time in investigating
- the way NB is coded. Anybody can do that by taking a Notabene
- text and examining it with any pgm that can see the text in
- hexadecimal format, for instance: Buerg's LIST. Regular Hebrew
- is ASCII 128-154. Vocalized Hebrew is constructed with signs
- consisting of 3-bytes sequences, of which the first is always
- ASCII 255 (Hex. FF). So deciphering the sequences is a simple matter,
- but it takes some tedious work to do, and I personally would appreciate
- it if Uri Melammed cared to do it by himself, then contribute
- the results to the public. I am afraid that I am not able to
- do that myself for lack of time. When you are a member of a user group,
- it is appreciated if you try to be helpful yourself, whenever
- possible, rather than only expect always to get
- assistance from everybody else. However, Melammed may have some luck
- with some user who may have carried out the desired work already.
-
- Sincerely,
-
