- Here's something that may help. The most recent UU encoded file from
- Frederik Pedersen (hi Frederik!) wouldn't decode for me. I looked at
- it in NB and noticed that it contained lower-case e-circumflexes.
- This looked like the sort of substitution our mailer makes for
- unwelcome characters. So, I checked to see what lower-ASCII
- characters were _not_ in the file: these turned out to be the upright
- line, the circumflex, and the tilde. Replacing the e-circumflexes
- with each of these in turn revealed that the circumflex is the
- correct character: with circumflexes in place, the file decodes.

- No doubt everyone's system is doing different things to these files,
- but the method might work: look for upper-ascii characters and by a
- process of elimination work out what lower-ascii characters they have
- been substituted for.
