- Here, Here!
-
- As the person who first asked for help in identifying the codes in
- nbcustom.set, I have been going steadily crazier for the past 2-3 weeks as
- first Dorothy Day evidently provided the information and then people started
- thanking her, then others started adding to the information. I am still
- unable to decode her message, or a similar one from Tony Woozley. When I
- run uudecode on them, I get a "short file" error message. When I run
- uuxfer20 on them, I get an error message in every line. After repeated
- off-list consultations with Tony and Dorothy, and endless consultations with
- the mainframe locals, including a three hour visit in my office with one of
- the people from the wryly-named "Computer Help Desk" on this campus, all to
- no avail, I have been at wit's end. One thinks it is one's own fault, and
- of course there is much reason to believe this, in my case. But, if it is
- my fault, why can't the Comfuse Desk figure it out? Which brings me back to
- J. P. Takala's welcome message . . .
-
- Can the problem be that I have been trying to uudecode and uuxfer these
- messages when I should have been trying to xxdecode them? Or that some
- mainframe systems require xxencoded rather than uuencoded files if they are
- not to corrupt them?
-
- Can some one explain this? Until these issues are settled, the information
- that some of you are able to swap is not getting through to Tallahassee, and
- it looks like Finland is in trouble, too.
-
- Meanwhile, it helps to know that I'm not alone.
