- I read Jim Morgan's message on using Bindview to calculate
- CD Plus usage with interest. I agree that both Bindview and
- CDPStats don't report the actual usage of the system. My
- suggestion, which I've talked to CD Plus about, is to change
- the way CDPStats collects the statistics.
-
- I would be interested in getting an accurate number of total
- search sessions. As Jim explained, the patron has to exit
- CD Plus in order for CDPStats to increment the total of
- search sessions. A more accurate representation of the
- total of search sessions would be available if the sessions
- total was incremented after the patron pressed the F3 End
- Session key. This number still wouldn't include improperly
- exited sessions, but it would reflect each new user's
- search at public access terminals without login protocols.
-
- It would also count the actual number of searches run by
- professional searchers. At CCF, the librarians run several
- searches for different patrons in one CD Plus session; it's
- too cumbersome and time-consuming to totally exit after each
- search is finished.
-
- I'd be interested in hearing how others use the statistics
- generated with CDPStats. I run the various statistics on a
- monthly basis, however I don't find the File Access
- Statistics (Citations Browsed, Printed, Downloaded, etc.)
- very useful.
