- I don't want to get into debating the meaningfulness or fairness of
- "prestige" (or, more importantly, "perceived prestige"), but the fact
- is that it's a part of life for MD/PhDs as well as academically-minded
- MDs. So, if one has ambitions of running a major lab, or becoming famous,
- or doing something unusual (say, an MD/PhD who wants to do neurosurg along
- with sociology...), then one had better have the bluest of blue-chip
- credentials on one's CV, regardless of whether you believe they *really*
- mean much or represent reality. Enough said.
