- the first study that ripped that whole thing wide open was Dale Spender's
- *Man Made Language." in the 70s. Spender showed that when a man and woman
- were in "conversation" together, if the woman got above 27% of the air-time
- the man reported that she didn't let him speak; and the woman reported that
- she felt she got about equal time! The study has been replicated a number of
- times.
- There was a special on TV here last week, only I forget which channel, which
- followed up on the national report last year (early spring 92 I think) that
- reviewed the several studies on this very question. It was some national
- women and education group, got a lot of press including a UW News report about
- Feb 92 (I had a class use it that's how I have this vague recollection)--
- that's US News of course--
- If you send a message to WMST-L at UMDD.UMD.EDU you'd get a ton of info very
- quickly. (If you're bounced I'll give you the sysop's address)
