- Subject: MVS 'BUILDING' and 'DEPT' fields from NJE
- Lines: 23
-
- We've recently upgraded from MVS/ESA 3.1.1 to 4.2. I'd like to make use of the
- new BUILDING and DEPT fields for the JES2 separator page, when sending SYSOUT
- from VM to MVS via RSCS.
-
- RSCS V3.1 supports BLDG and DEPT fields in the TAG for files sent via NJE. The
- NJE job header fields for those values are only 8 characters each (rather than
- 60 as supported within MVS), but that's OK with me. The problem: it appears
- that JES2 doesn't use the information in those NJE header fields when building
- its banner page.
-
- Is this an inherent limitation? Will BUILDING and DEPT be picked up by JES2
- *only* from a JCL OUTPUT statement? Is there any way to get JES2 to use the
- NJE BLDG and DEPT fields? Will I need a JES2 exit in order to make this work?
-
- What's the point of having those MVS-only fields in the NJE header if JES2 is
- going to ignore them? (And, similarly, why put support for those fields in
- RSCS if the only system on which they have meaning won't use them?)
-
- (Questions, questions, questions!).
-
- Any suggestions welcome. Remember: I'm sending SYSOUT, not *jobs* to MVS.
-
- Thanks.
