- Dear All,
- I have noticed that several members of EDTECH have attempted
- to combine the singular with the plural, as in 'to be used by a
- student in their thesis.'
- Apparently, such people are trying to avoid what they see as
- sexism in language (although that is debatable, as would be the
- second stage of the subject of any perceived discrimination).
- However, to those of use who read fluently it can be a source of
- confusion as well as annoyance. I believe the simple solution is
- to avoid the plural, as in 'to be used by a student in a thesis.'
- Does this not bother anyone else? If not, I need to know in
- order to begin burning my grammar materials ... I teach English
- Language Arts at this time ...
