- Connection Machine Programming course
-
- March 1 - 5, 1993
-
-
- The Parallel Computing Research Facility is holding three courses on
- programming the Connection Machine. The Connection Machine is a
- massively parallel supercomputer. The first course is programming in
- CMFortran, the second course is programming in CMMD, the third course
- is programming in C*. The course should give you all the basic
- knowledge to access and program the machine in the relevant language.
- You may enrol in all courses if you wish.
-
- The CMFortran course will be on Monday and Tuesday the 1st and 2nd.
- This course is relevant to both the CM-2 and the CM-5. CMFortran is a
- language similar to Fortran 90. Experience in programming in Fortran,
- using an editor (vi, emacs or uemacs), and using Unix is assumed.
-
- The CMMD course will be on Wednesday the 3rd. CMMD is the message
- passing programming package for the CM-5. It can be used with any
- compiler for the SPARC processor, although we will only focus on C,
- Fortran, C*, CMF, and C++. Experience using an editor (vi, emacs or
- uemacs) using Unix is assumed.
-
- The C* course will be Thursday and Friday the 4th and 5th. C* is an
- extension of the C programming language. This course is relevant to
- both the CM-2 and the CM-5. Experience in programming in C, using an
- editor (vi, emacs or uemacs), and using Unix is assumed.
-
- The courses will be a combination of lecture and laboratory sessions.
- Each course will provide you with several programming problems (and
- example solutions), but users are encouraged to bring along their own
- code for examination and porting towards the end of the course.
-
- The cost for CMFortran and C* courses is $50 each, the cost for the
- CMMD course is $30. If you want a copy of the relevant language manual
- they will be $50 for the CM Fortran manual, $30 for the CMMD manual,
- and $30 for the C* manual.
-
- Morning and afternoon tea will be provided. Morning tea 11am till
- 11:30am, afternoon tea 3:30pm till 4pm.
-
- The course will be held in the Computer Services Centre user area
- (level 1, CSC Building) Each course attendee will have access to a Sun
- IPC running X windows, attached to AARNet.
-
- Applicants must apply for an account (or already have one). We can
- issue temporary accounts if required. Applicants will be provided with
- a copy of the CM technical summary as soon as practical, all applicants
- are expected to have read some of this manual (areas of required
- reading will be noted in the manual).
-
- Courses are limited to 8 people - get in early. Priority will be given
- to existing users and users with good research proposals.
