- Hello everyone. I am experiencing a very frustrating problem with our
- Sparc Printer. Everything was peachy until yesterday afternoon when
- suddenly, I started getting the error:
-
- unable to print: fatal printer error
-
- I checked the power cord, cable connections, toner, paper cartridge, daemons,
- drivers, the kitchen sink, etc., but nothing helps the situation. It was
- suggested that perhaps Newsprint and/or the driver(s) were corrupted, so
- I reinstalled the entire thing from scratch, and it still doesn't work.
- Someone suggested that I change a line in /etc/printcap from:
-
- :lp=/dev/lpvi0:\
-
- to
- :lp=/dev/console:\
-
- I tried "lp /.login" and it was alleged that it would dump to console.
- This generated the same fatal printer error. We don't have a support
- contract, and they want $150 an hour to check this thing, so I would
- like to make sure it's not something trivial. The support person at
- Sun did suggest that the printer is "too stupid to generate that error
- message" and a software driver problem is the likely cause.
-
- Please reply by e-mail, and I will post a summary if anyone requests
- it. Thanks in advance.
