- Wait. Was it because the parents were fat or because the children were
- fat?
-
- I've heard of a case where a fat kid's parents were investigated for
- abuse in the form of causing their child to be extremely fat. My
- sister blamed my mom for her fatness, and restricted my nephew's diet
- when he was young to "prevent him from creating many fat cells". (I
- might also blame my parents, but it would be for making me devious,
- not for feeding me ;-).
-
- If it was because the parents were fat, there's a question of whether
- or not their size was a handicap. We would all like to think that it
- isn't a problem, but even at my current size, I find limitations to
- what I can do. If I weighed 200 pounds more than I do now, I might not
- be able to take care of myself, let alone a child, without special aid,
- and that might cost more than I can afford. I'm trying not to be
- unfeeling here, but I can see how the social services people might
- consider extreme fatness to be a serious enough handicap to make a
- case.
