        I had a very strange experience last night.  I'm positive I
had to be oob, something I have never even come close to doing, and
I thought some of you out there would like to hear about it.

        It was a long day, a good sixteen hours of working on a
video production for a school product.  I planned to go to sleep
early, as the next day was to be similar.   I slept from about nine
to one in the morning, at which time I woke up and got a drink of
water.  It occured to me that I wasn't really tired, so I got out a
book and started reading.  It was engrossing fiction, and time
really flew.  Some hours later I heard a 'clunk' on my front door
and realized it was the paper.  I decided I really needed to get
some rest, even if I felt wide awake.  I turned and got comfortable.

        Soon I was in a lucid dream.  In general I have very
detailed and strange dreams, but I had _never_ been this concious
in one before.  I was completely in control;  I knew it was a
dream, and started observing what was going on around me.  My
girlfriend was sitting on one end of a table, and my parents on the
other.  My parents were arguing.  I always find it strange that I
cannot know what a person in my dream is about to say, since I
think I'm in control.  I observed that one would talk, then the
other, and they never overlapped conversations, confirming a rumor
I heard on alt.dreams, I think.  I went up to my girlfriend and
kissed her on the stomach, because I couldn't see her face and
couldn't lift myself up to see her.  I told her I loved her, and as
I did I tried very hard to look up at her.

        Immediately my body started shaking, vibrating like a
hummingbird's wing.  It felt like I was being electrocuted, only
with none of the associated pain, just a feeling of severe
uncomfort.  I could hear the vibrations, too, and with a sudden
"bwarrrp" type sound, like something out of science fiction, I was
separated from my body.  I was totally conscious.  I was scared to
death.  I have never felt this scared before.  From readings here
or on alt.dreams I remembered that irrational fear was definately
part of the oob experience.

        I did not want to move, for I feared this would confirm
that I was oob, and I couldn't face that.  I just wanted to be back
in my body.  I remember looking and seeing my hand, which was
strange because it was underneath the pillow I was resting my head
on.  It was bluish purple, and looked mostly like a person's aura.
But then I simply started sliding backwards out of my bed.  I
visualized how nice it would be to be back in my body, and there
was some sort of tug of war going on.  I slowed then went forward,
backward, forward, until, by concentrating on a chess board
parallel to my bed, I was able to enter my body.  I felt myself
being lowered onto the mattress.  The vibrations subsided after about
a minute, during which time I was comatose with fear that I was still
somehow oob.  I looked at the watch on my bedpost and it said 6:10.

        I thought I would post this to see if anyone else had
entered such a state with such rapidity and without wanting to.  I
had tried to go oob before but it was a no go, yet I had no control
over this one.  Also, observations as to why I entered this state
would be much appreciated, as this is soo strange to me.
