  19. and gerry moved to their current timeslot on wlup-fm at about the same
  20. time stern came in on wlup-am; and s&g got higher ratings.  as i recall,
  21. their ratings were higher than brandmeier got for that time slot.

  23. stern is a bit more widely known now than when he started in philadelphia
  24. [not my favorite town :-( ] so i would not expect it to take 4 years to
  25. catch on in chicago.  i believe he claimed to have made it to #1 in la
  26. after being on for about one year.

  28. i'm not going to make any predictions about how stern is going to do in
  29. chicago [although i am curious as to how his tv show did] but i can't
  30. say that any of the explanations surrounding his initial chicago ratings
  31. are all that convincing.  i'm starting to wonder if, with all the todo
  32. with stern given his celebrity status, expectations prior to his arrival
  33. in a new market are so great that the actual show is a bit of a letdown.

  35. personally, i think the show in syndication really blows, on wlup there
  36. are LONG periods of commercials during breaks and *stupid* gags during
  37. the wlup studio segments (for news, sports, traffic).  when the breaks
  38. are done, the show is often rejoined when a segment is in progress; i.e.
  39. it doesn't appear that the end of the wlup break is synchronized with
  40. those on wxrk-fm in new york.

  42. btw, those of you in the eastern time zone who attempt to listen to wlup-am
  43. at 6:00am hoping to hear the stern show, you're somewhat out of luck.
  44. stern doesn't get picked up until 7:00am eastern time.  i think that during
  45. this time they are still doing rebroadcasts of the previous day's jonathan
  46. brandmeier drive-time program.
