  30. CFP3 SCHOLARSHIPS

  33. The Third Conference on Computers, Freedom and Privacy (CFP-3) will
  34. provide a limited number of full registration scholarships for students
  35. and other interested individuals. The conference is sponsored by ACM
  36. SIGCOMM, SIGCAS & SIGSAC and will be held 9-12 March, 1992 at the San
  37. Francisco Airport Marriott Hotel in Burlingame CA.

  39. The conference will be attended by computer and library scientists, legal
  40. scholars, government officials, information industry and other private
  41. sector representatives, law enforcement officials, civil liberties
  42. advocates and many others. Active participants will include Electronic
  43. Frontier Foundation (EFF) Staff Counsel Mike Godwin, Georgetown University
  44. Computer Science Chair Dorothy Denning, California County District
  45. Attorney Don Ingraham, SRI's Peter G. Neumann, Autodesk's Jim Warren
  46. (founder of InfoWorld, The West Coast Computer Faire and the CFP
  47. conferences), New York State Police Senior Computer Crime Investigator
  48. Donald Delaney, George Trubow of the John Marshall Law School, Rand Corp's
  49. Willis Ware, Lance J. Hoffman of George Washington University, IBM's
  50. Barbara Simons and CPSR's Marc Rotenberg. The conference is chaired by
  51. Bruce Koball, a key planner of CFP 1 & 2.

  53. These scholarships will cover the full costs of registration, including
  54. three luncheons, two banquets, and all conference materials.
  55. Scholarship recipients will be responsible for their own lodging and
  56. travel expenses. Persons wishing to apply for one of these fully-paid
  57. registrations must send a request (no more than two typewritten pages)
  58. postmarked by 15 January 1993. The request should concisely contain the
  59. following information:
  60.  
  61. 1. Personal Information -- Name, Address, Phone, E-Mail Address, School
  62. or Employment Affiliation.
  63.  
  64. 2. Category and Supporting Information -- Student, Academic, Law
  65. Enforcement Official, "Hacker", etc. We are particularly interested in
  66. providing scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students majoring
  67. in computer or information science, journalism, law, law enforcement,
  68. political science, and related disciplines as well as "hackers" and law
  69. enforcement officials who could otherwise not attend the conference.

  71. 3. A specific statement saying that you will attend the entire
  72. conference and that you understand that you are responsible for your
  73. own transportation and lodging expenses related to the attendance.
  74.  
  75. 4. A paragraph explaining why you are interested in attending the
  76. conference and what use you expect to make of the information obtained
  77. at the conference.

  79. 5. A paragraph explaining the need for the financial assistance and
  80. stipulating that, without the scholarship, attendance is not possible.

  82. 6. A statement committing the recipient to write a short summary (2
  83. pages minimum) of the recipient's evaluation of the conference,
  84. complete with recommendations for subsequent conferences. The paper is
  85. to be submitted to the scholarship chair no later than March 31, 1993.
