  14. We are running CMU TCP on a VAX/VMS system. We have PCs with ethernet
  15. boards at our local campus and the 4 remote campus connected via remote
  16. ethernet bridges.  All these PCs telnet to this VAX using Kermit 3.11
  17. ( which has built-in telnet ).

  19. Many times pc users copy the kermit files from their pc around to other
  20. machines. One of the files they copy is mskermit.ini that has the tcp
  21. address of the person's pc. When that file is copied, the receiving machine
  22. also gets the tcp address of the other machine. And on it goes. Sometimes
  23. a whole lab of pc's gets the same tcp address. The network dies a slow
  24. death.

  26. My question is as follows:
  27. 1)"Is there a way to prevent a pc from accessing the network
  28.    if there is already a pc on the network at that moment with the same tcp
  29.    address as the one attempting access?" and,
  30. 2)"Is there a way to dynamically assign the pc with an IP address from
  31.    the VAX running VMS and CMU TCP"
  32.  
  33. We know that Kermit 3.11 and higher on the PC will work with the BOOTP
  34. protocol.  Is there a BOOTP server solution that will run on a VAX running
  35. VMS and CMU TCP?  As this would be ideal.
