  24. One of the things that most people don't think about are the spinoffs produced
  25. by the space program as things which were produced in getting us there in the
  26. first place.

  28. There are tens of thousands of items which have been produced to improve our
  29. standard of living over the past 30 years which were direct results from the
  30. space program.

  32. Consider a few things:
  33.  
  34. Freeze drying.
  35. Teflon.
  36. Many, many, many variations of plastics.
  37. Building materials.
  38. Manufacturing methods for purer elements.
  39.  
  40. There are VOLUMES of books in your local library which contain lists of things
  41. which were produced by the space program which we take for granted in our
  42. everyday use.
  43.  
  44. We as a society have benefited more from our efforts to get to the moon than
  45. from any other peacetime activity.
  46.  
  47. Maybe actually going to the moon was a moot point, but what we created in order
  48. to get there was (and is) of significant value.
