  20. secret life of American public opinion: someone like yourself who
  21. is emotionally tangled up with a foreign country like Israel, or
  22. someone who isn't?

  25. the $10 billion loan guarantee for Israel, or those who opposed
  26. it?

  28. Who is better in touch with American opinion: those who support
  29. Israel's recent deportation of Palestinians, or those who oppose
  30. it?

  32. At some point in the not too distant future I suspect that Israel
  33. and the Israeli lobby will discover that they have been living in
  34. a dream world when it comes to reading the mind and mood of the
  35. American people. It is a serious mistake to project your
  36. emotional obsessions on people who do not share them and to start
  37. believing your own propaganda handouts.

  39. Americans feel generally friendly towards the supposedly Western
  40. democratic Israel that has traditionally been portrayed in the
  41. mass media. The feeling doesn't run that deeply, however, and is
  42. predicated on the image matching the reality.

  44. The deterioration of Israel's standing in the U.S. during recent
  45. years is quite remarkable. In case you haven't noticed, it's
  46. increasingly difficult to find non-Jews who will speak
  47. enthusiastically about Israel with the exception of Christian
  48. fundamentalists whose hidden agenda towards the Jewish state and
  49. Jews is predatory indeed.
