- Why should he have one ? It's a lot easier to criticize. If you
- come out with a concrete plan than you give everyone a chance to
- criticize your plans. If no one asks Erbakan what his plans are then
- a) no one knows--possibly including himslef or his advisors if he has
- any
-
- b) they know but they don't want to say--this could be dangerous.
- Since it could imply that some people are going to try their pet
- experiments on a nation of 60 guinea pigs. Castro and his ilk
- did these experiments on the citizens of their countries for years
- before giving up.
-
- c) Erbakan and his advisors know but his followers think they know.
- This is also an ideal situation for Erbakan. If and when he takes
- power, no one can say that he promised anything. If the people
- imply that he did imply certain things, the blame will go to the
- hocas who spoonfed the hungry and illiterate masses whatever they
- wanted to hear.
-
- This is the worst case scenario. This usually follows after a
- campaign of generalized promises of the type communists promised
- in the x-M-L states. No one can deliver but no one can criticize
- anyone of making empty promises. In this case, it will be even
- easier than the USSR. Anyone who opposes the 'Islamic Government'
- can immediately be accused of being anti-God,anti-Mohammed,
- anti-Islam,anti-Caliph, pro-West, pro-Communist, pro-xxxxx.
-
- Finally, no modern system can do without interest. It exists in
- Saudi Arabia despite protestations to the contrary. It's simply
- called 'commission'. Such ingenuity :-)..

- No state can operate without an accounting of money. Accounting
- requires computations in which interest plays an irreplaceable
- role. State planning cannot be done without interest rates and
- without controlling the inflation rate.

- If the present trends continue, Saudi Arabia and Iran might play the
- role of Spain a few hundred years ago. The massive influx of
- silver and gold upset the delicate balance of society and power.
- Everyone wanted to become boss and there no one left to do any work
- except mercenaries. Spain went into a tailspin. The same
- thing could happen to Iran and Saudi Arabia and all the oil
- states. Sooner or later the oil will run out and they will be
- left with a bunch of people who all want to be bosses.
-
- The fact that Turkey does not depend on artificial wealth could
- be a blessing in disguise in the long run. The people will learn
- to stand on their own feet instead of relying on the state or God.
- The effects will be seen soon in the next century.
-
- Besides all that, if Turkey now turned away from the WEst, where
- would they go ? Iran ? Saudi Arabia? Russia ? China ? India ?
-
- How much could they prosper with Saudi Science and Iranian
- technology ? Iranian economists and Chinese roadbuilders ?
- Is there a need to go on ????
