- I believe democracy cannot come for free. It may come from revolution (like
- France), or set up by alien force (like Japan) or through graduate transition
- (like Taiwan). The process is painful and costly. Taiwan has come a long way
- to get close to it. I do appreciate the democratic status we've achieved
- because it's earned inch by inch.

- Indeed there is still a long way for Taiwan's democracy to go. But please
- do not belittle Taiwan's democracy. A baby does not have muscle, but it's
- happy that it's born. Shouldn't China try to catch up by conceiving one?
