  23. No flameage from me!  I'm an atheistic Jewish ordained SubGenius
  24. minister (I try not to let my hobbies interfere with one
  25. another), and I agree wholeheartedly.

  27. When the First Amendment says "Congress shall make no law
  28. respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
  29. exercise thereof....",  I see that as meaning that *no* religion
  30. ought to be given more credence--officially--than any other.

  32. Permitting the Lubavitchers to put up a menorah in a public
  33. place--and permitting the KKK to put up a cross--does indeed make
  34. "Judeo-Christianity" out to be the Unied States' official,
  35. government-sanctioned religion.  The same is true about the
  36. Christmas tree in the police station at my college, even though
  37. it represents only private effort.  This is a Florida *state*
  38. police department, as are all the state university system police
  39. departments in Florida.  What business a religious symbol like a
  40. Christmas tree has in a police department I do not know.  Though
  41. I disagree with whoever said that the Christmas tree's pagan
  42. origins make such a display "worse, if anything."  Paganism is
  43. just as legitimate in public as Christianity or Judaism--that is,
  44. not at all.  I don't see a Dobbshead on the wall in the cop
  45. shop--nor would I put one there.
