- This is a summary of what it was until 1985, I don't think there is any
- change after I left (in Feb 1985):
-
- The Italian government provides FREE health care to ALL citizens/residents
- of Italy. Depending on the population of each city/town/community, a
- certain
- number of physicians are assigned to every local community and are paid
- for by the government. I forgot what the ratio of physician/people was,
- but it should not be too high, as I have a lot more trouble here in USA
- in
- obtaining an appointment with a Cigna physician than in Italy (And I'm
- paying for my health care insurance here!). We can then get the
- prescription from any pharmacy and pay 20% (the government
- pays 80% to the pharmacy). All extensive care and hospitalization
- are FREE too (operation, room, meals and such...).
