- NEW DELHI, India (AP) _ Suspected Hindu radicals attacked a
- train carrying a prominent government minister who escaped unhurt,
- news reports said Sunday.
- Madhav Rao Scindia, the minister for civil aviation and tourism,
- was the apparent target of the attack, which occurred Saturday in
- Agra, 105 miles southeast of New Delhi, United News of India news
- agency said.
- Scindia is a leading critic of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya
- Janata Party, which was blamed for urging Hindu zealots to destroy
- a Muslim shrine in the town of Ayodhya last month. The razing of
- the mosque triggered Hindu-Muslim rioting across India in which at
- least 1,200 people were killed.
- TV footage showed the train's windows were smashed during the
- attack, but it was not immediately clear what weapons the
- assailants used.
