  21. The Jewish Religious Halakek (Legal) definition of a Jew is *not* what
  22. you said.  In the Torah, you are a Jew if your mother is Jewish or you
  23. convert.  There is no requirement of belief or practice.  Period.  You
  24. are Jewish then.

  29. Further, a jew who converts to another religion is really still a jew.
  30. However after many generations of non-practice, and marrying others, a
  31. rabbi will usually require the descendent to convert before being
  32. declare jewish again, if at the very least because the authenticity of
  33. the descendents jewishness is in question.
