  11. People... please read the rules...

  13. This news group is restricted to the dissemination, by academic
  14. departments, of information about graduate programs.  The group
  15. provides a simple place for students who are looking for graduate
  16. school information.  In addition, for many international students it
  17. is the best way for obtaining information about universities in other
  18. countries.

  20. This is an unmoderated group, but with a set of "rules" that are
  21. posted each month.  These rules are designed to keep the group as
  22. effective as possible as an official source of information for
  23. prospective graduate students.  As discussed below, there will be a
  24. group guardian, who makes sure that the rules are followed.  There are
  25. four rules:

  27. 1. Standard Subject line, listing the degree area and the university.
  28.   e.g. Subject: Computer Science, Montana State University
  29. 2. Standard format in the body of the proposal.  Information to be
  30.   filled in is limited to:
  31.   (a) Name, e-address, phone, and snail-address for a contact point.
  32.   (b) Faculty names, degrees, interests, and e-addresses.
  33.   (c) Facilities available for graduate students.
  34.   (d) Availability of financial support.
  35.   (e) Degrees offered.
  36.   (f) Specific requirements.  (e.g., GRE, TOEFL, TSE, etc.)
  37.   (g) Deadline for applications.
  38.   (h) Description of the university and location (200 words max.).
  39. 3. No department will be able to post more than once each month.
  40. 4. All postings must specify a followup field of soc.college
