-
- Nobody is calling for moderation of this group, in case you hadn't
- noticed! People are calling for creation of a *new* group that will be
- moderated. All your favorite crackpots will still be available on good
- old sci.physics.
-
- It is not censorship to create an additional, moderated forum; some
- physicists claim that they would read sci.physics.moderated and post
- there, while they find the current forum too noisy.
-
- As for whether newsgroups can ever become "research-level" and of
- serious use to professionals, this is still an open question: on the one
- hand, it's unlikely to happen soon, but on the other hand, it's hard to
- believe that existing media are the final word on professional
- communication. One thing, however, is for sure: it will never happen if
- there is no form of moderation (or some other form of filtering that's
- vastly more intelligent than current kill-file and "hit n" methods).
