- Only thing that bugs me is the use of steel wool on kitchen cabinets.
-
- Steel wool can leave little, undetectable bits of steel in the grain, and
- any moisture will cause black stains from the iron oxides formed.
-
- I would use a "scotchbrite" nylon pad in an appropriate grade, or at the
- worst, use BRONZE wool from the local boatyard. This avoids the problem
- entirely.
-
- I would experiment carefully with the sealer and the number of coats.
- Personally, I don't like lacquer in kitchens or wet areas since I just cannot
- get it to last. I like Varathane (urathane-based varnish) or real spar
- varnish.
-
- let us know how it comes out, though. Sounds like fun.
