- The first pan-european news-TV-channel is on the air. As planned,
- it broadcasts from Eutelsat II F1, 11.7 575 GHz vertical. The
- standard is PAL,
- originating in Lyon, France. The sources of news items are most
- european public broadcasters. Six languages are used simultanously:
- English, French, German, Spanish, Italian (the Arabic audio sub
- carrier is still silent). There is no anchorman/woman or moderator,
- because it had been found to be impossible to do properly
- as a 6-language-channel.
-
- So here is the first true competitor for the recently launched
- n-tv/CNN Germany news channel. The first impression is that
- obviously EuroNews needs continous moving material ,which
- is available in huge quantity, while n-tv suffers from actuality
- by using old agency material, sometimes BBC WS plus CNN
- dubs and lots of talking heads.
