- Hello,
-
- I am in the market for a satellite system, currently looking through
- the local classified ads for a bargain to scrounge, and I was wondering:
-
- a) what should I be looking for
- b) are there comparable new systems available at reasonable prices
-
- I am certain that I don't want to spend the money for a descrambler
- system (I have no intention of subscribing to anything). Receiving ITC
- broadcasts would be nice, can it be done with an old VCII?
-
- I know that I want discrete stereo reception. Remote control is nice.
- I would like to be able to upgrade to Ku reception in the future, and
- possibly a descrambler (when I feel GI et al have decided to stick with
- a format). I could probably manage a dish up to 10ft, but would like to
- get an 8ft (my back yard isn't THAT big).
-
- I have seen the Skyvision catalog, and they advertise a couple of
- non-descrambler C-Band systems. One, completely manual, is based on the
- PanSat BR 1100 receiver, the other on the BR 3000. Do either of these
- receivers support discrete stereo? I assume I could get some sort of
- stereo processor, such as the Janiel, if they do not. Skyvision also
- advertises the Uniden UST-9000 receiver as having discrete stereo
- support. Does anyone have any experience with this receiver?
-
- What is the cheapest new C-band system on the market today?
-
- The bottom line here is that the systems offered by Skyvision cost
- $559+$75s&h and $768+$79s&h. The best classified ad I've seen was for a
- $600 system. Considering that the systems coming on the market now are
- not likely to have VCII+ or better descramblers, and the upgrade offer
- is apparently over, what would be reasonable cost for such a system?
- It looks like the asking prices are pretty comparable to new prices.
- Basically, I'd like some comparative pricing info so that I can bargain
- safely and effectively. But, then, wouldn't we all like that.
-
- Any info you can spare will be appreciated.
