- Lines: 32
-
- I have been wondering about the use of 'short names' ( for example K1-1 or
- G2-1 ) for satellites seen from the US. horizon. In Europe we don't seem to
- have agreed upon an shorter naming convention for a Satellite and its
- transponders. It can sometimes be quite confusing when talking about different
- Eutelsats or Intelsats etc. You can either use its correct name, Eutelsat II-F1
- for example, or by the position. Both methods are difficult and hard to
- implement in a receiver.
-
- I know that there is nowhere near the same number of sats. available from
- Europe as in North America but we are getting more and more over here.
-
- When I recently bought a Monterey 40 receiver I noted the difference in
- configuration and use of short sat. names between traditional 'European'
- receivers and The Monterey. In 'standard' receivers you only have a channel
- number and if you are very lucky you can also assign a sat. position to the
- channel.
-
- Could maybe someone inform me how this naming of satellites is done. Who
- decides what short name a satellite is given ?
-
- Wouldn't it be nice if we in Europe could adopt some *short* naming convention
- for the sats here ?
-
- Also, can someone inform me about the Monterey receivers, in Europe the mod. 20
- and 40 are marketed. But as I understand there are plenty more on the market
- in USA. What are the basic differences ?
