- Nobody gets more snow than Marquette Michigan. With my dish up 17.5 feet in
- the air, I have found the "Point it West, Young Man" method works the best
- for me. However there are usually two or three snows that are so bad that I
- lose a good bit of reception, requiring sending a teen ager up on the roof
- with a broom. I have lost ALL C band reception due to snow so I can vouch
- for its effects. During snow times, I park it on C1/02 and listen to the FOR
- THE PEOPLE NETWORK. If it fades out, I know I have a problem with snow build
- up.
-
- I saw a gizmo on Satellite Market USA that intrigued me. It is called
- "Avalanche", and don't you want to know how it works?
-
- Avalanche is a device that bolts to your dish, and has a small DC motor with
- an eccentric cam mounted on the shaft, and a control box/power supply inside
- your home. See some snow on the dish? Flip on the AVALANCHE, and it SHAKES
- THE SNOW OFF THE DISH by vibrating. You can adjust it to find a resonant
- point. Supposedly this does not shake any fittings lose or anything.
-
- Cost?
-
- $300+.
-
- Not bad for about $12 worth of stuff.
-
- I would imagine someone who is the LEAST BIT handy could build one of these
- things.
