- I see more and more of what I call "scrolling white lines" on many of
- the laserdiscs I rent, and have gone through a couple of exchanges of
- "Terminator" WS and "2001" WS to get "clean" copies. With rental LDs,
- I have just assumed that many of them have just been abused (finger-
- prints, little scratches, etc), but with the "brand new" LDs I'm
- beginning to wonder whether my CLD-3080 is a bit out of whack, and
- thus more susceptible to such discs than other players might be. I
- have discs that have no scrolling white lines; until Fantasia and
- Clockwork Orange (both CLV), I did not have any.
-
- Did I just pick two discs that leave something to be desired in terms
- of overall mastering quality (I recall that there are no such lines
- in "Apocalypse Now", for example, nor on any of the CAV disks I've
- viewed)? (By "two discs", I am referring to "Terminator" and "2001";
- I have yet to receive good copies of either of these. "2001" scrolling
- white lines seemed to have appeared in different places (maybe one
- was in the same place, out of approx a handful per side 1/2) on the two
- different sets I've examined).
