  11. I picked up a few LDs recently and thought I would share my observations
  12. with the net...

  14. Apocalypse Now, R, LBX, Stereo, Dolby Surround, 1991, Paramount
  15.  
  16. I'm sure most of you are familiar with the movie itself...the digital audio
  17. tracks on this disc are awesome!  The audio was remastered to digital from
  18. the original six-track analog masters.  This disc is quite the demo for
  19. Dolby Pro Logic setups.  Five guys from Dolby Labs got credit on this disc!
  20. Good pressing.  The disc was pressed by Pioneer.  A technical masterpiece.

  22. Lethal Weapon 3, R, LBX, Stereo, Dolby Surround, 1992, Warner Home Video

  24. Great movie, especially if your a fan of the Lethal Weapon series...good
  25. mix of action/comedy.  I don't know if this disc is available in a P&S
  26. version, but I would not recommend it.  The director (Richard Donner)
  27. definately took advantage of the original theatrical (Panavision) aspect
  28. ratio.  You would definately suffer a loss with P&S in this case.  Good
  29. surround encoding.  The disc was pressed WEA (Warner).

  33. Excellent video transfer.  The disc is not LBX.  Not that it matters, I
  34. believe it was originally shot at academy ratio...can someone clarify
  35. this?  The digital audio is of the same quality as the CD soundtrack.
  36. The disc sounds like it is surround encoded, however, no credit is given
  37. to Dolby Labs and the Dolby logo does not appear on the sleeve.  It is
  38. interesting to note though, a surround test immediately follows the film.
  39. Can they encode in surround and not give credit to Dolby?

  43. This disc is a japaneese import and may not be available in all areas.
  44. It goes for 4,635 yen, I paid $50.00 or so at a local LD store.  The disc
  45. was created by mitsubishi/dentsu/warner-pioneer and marketed by Warner
  46. Music Japan.  If your a Madonna fan, this disc is a must own.  It's a
  47. live performance in Japan from her Who's That Girl tour.  The stage show
  48. was excellent and the surround encoded digital audio is great!  It's
  49. just like being at the concert with the best seat in the house.  The disc
  50. features an insert, similiar to old LPs, it has the words to all the songs
  51. in english and japaneese, along with all the chapter encoding information
  52. in english.  I believe the disc was pressed by Pioneer in Japan.
