- Get the CLV edition (WB 11753). The CAV (11844) is seriously compromised.
-
- Both editions are from the same 1988 video master. The film (shot hard
- matte at 1.66:1) is presented slightly letterboxed at 1.5:1, in digital
- surround. Both editions, unfortunately, have the idiotic Pioneer zooming
- logos at the side changes.
-
- The CLV is a PVI pressing, 3+1 sides, and includes the 50-minute making-of
- short "China Odyssey".
-
- The CAV is of 3M manufacture, but it goes downhill from there. The white
- flags were improperly set on every video frame (instead of 3/2 fields), so 2
- of every 5 CAV still frames have field motion. The making-of supplement is
- NOT included. You also get two additional side changes (and silly logos).
- The package is a single sleeve with a flap at the top an is nearly
- unmanageable.
-
- I originally owned the CAV edition, modified the jacket, and even bought a
- $20 imported copy of "China Odyssey" to complete it, but ended up giving it
- away when a used CLV edition turned up.
