- That 720 X 486 figure is "internal" compression. Input or output are only
- NTSC (or PAL).
-
- I am looking at DMI's flyer right now and they say for 10:1 compression that
- you'll get 333 sec per GB or about 5.5 minutes. EditMaster's least
- compression is 15:1 which they claim is visually lossless and of 3/4 inch
- Betacam quality. 15:1 will get you 500 sec per GB or 8.3 minutes. That
- would be nearly 17 minutes on a 2 Gig drive. (Which you could easily afford
- if you bought EditMaster rather than Digital Film and letting alone the
- cost difference between Mac and Amiga.)
-
- I *think* 25:1 is in the SVHS catagory and would suit many needs and with
- it you'll get 833 sec per Gig or about 14 min. That would be 7 minutes
- on a 500 MB drive and is within reach of many people but I'll bet with
- markets being developed for 2 Gig drives, the price of such beasts will
- come down sharply.
-
- Also... DMI is heavy into optical drives and something tells me that they
- have plans for Amiga, JPEG boards, optical drives, and video. Did I see
- where 600+ MB optical drives are already on the market?

-
- ...you mean "more" than 20:1??
-
- You could get an EditMaster and a Video Toaster for about $5000. :)
