- SK>Can someone out there explain to me why the air conditioning in passenger
- SK>planes is so dry. I'm sick of getting dehydrated!!!
-
- Because the air is replenished from outside. Air at 50,000+ feet is
- very cold. This air is warmed before being passed through the plane.
- Cold air has very low relative humidity. When it is warmed it becomes
- very dry.
-
- The cost of trying to humidify the air in a large volume such as a
- plane would be prohibitive.
-
- Suggestion: Try putting a medical mask over your face during flight.
- It looks funny - but it works. It also seems to reduce (a very little
- bit) the chance of catching colds.
