- I think it will be more like

- Utah 14
- WSU 44

- I was out of town and only got back last Sunday, but I gather that
- there hasn't been that much Copper Bowl coverage here. And the
- papers from Sunday on through today have been pretty dissapointing.
-
- They have talked about the Cougars relaxing here, which was what
- I read last week in the Seattle and Spokane papers. Mike Price
- (WSU coach) said that he wanted this thing to be a reward for
- the players and not seen as a stepping stone for the program.
- I think he has the right attitude. The players are having a
- ball (2 hours of practice (including films??),
- then the rest of the day for golf,
- horseback riding, etc.) and it is the players that actually
- do most of the recruiting work through word of mouth. And they
- certainly deserve it, too. I'm sure that they are getting very
- serious about the game now, and I'm not worried about them
- ``Couging it.'' We Cougar fans are not used to WSU having a
- defense, and don't always fully realize that we now have two
- ways to win any game: with the offense or with the defense!
-
- So I think the Cougs will do well. If the Utes can give
- their QB good protection (doubtful) then it might be close.
- Of course, if the Utes pull of a big upset or even come close
- Mike Price will get a huge barrage of criticism (but not from me).
-
- Finally, the weather may be a factor. It started raining
- I think Sunday night or so, and it has been raining of and
- on since then. I went for a walk at noon MST (kickoff-6 hours)
- and there was no rain now or probably not for at least a few
- hours, but there were some black clouds. The weathermen say
- that later in the afternoon rain, possibly heavy, will start,
- and the game should have a lot of rain. I think this would
- help WSU, since we have the #1 rusher in the Pac10 in Shaumbe
- Wright-Faire. People might be tempted to draw conclusions
- with how well WSU adapted (and Bledsoe passed) in the snow
- in the UW-WSU game. I think this is not germane, though,
- since (I read) the snow was dry and Bledsoe said it was not
- that big of a deal to throw in. Rain, especially heavy, might
- be quite different.
