- A major problem for railroads back in the late 60's and early 70's
- anyway was the theft of the brass for scrap.

- Apparantly as the railroads would put these older cars in storage
- in remote sidings, people would steal the brass bearings from these
- cars. I hear it was quite easy to get the weight of the axle and slip
- the brass out. The exact method escapes me now.

- Once the brass was removed, the cars couldn't be moved. It became very
- expensive for the railroads to replace the brasses.
