  16. I think the sense that "these people must be dumb" to climb on
  17. the tracks and get killed derives from the fact that the behavior
  18. people engage in on rail_roads_ is not what they would probably
  19. do on any other road.  That is, if they treated railroads like
  20. car roads (like freeways, given the speeds involved), they
  21. wouldn't be in the situations that got them killed.
  22. (This just to explain, not justify or excuse anything).

  24. I think a lot of people have seen trains moving slowly and so
  25. expect that all trains move slowly.  I have the same problem
  26. on my bicycle a lot, where people assume that since some bikes
  27. move slowly, they all do.
