- I have one and also and R7000. The R7100 is missing some niceties like a record
- jack on the front, but honestly it's performance is better than the R7000 so
- I can live with this sort of thing. To date I haven't been able to get it
- to work with my computer control programs intended for the R7000, but since
- they aren't written for it, it isn't a real surprise to me. The RF performance
- is really good. I like it better than my R7000, but the 7000 is still a
- very good receiver too.
-
- The R7100 like the R7000 isn't really a scanner. It does have scan capabilites,
- but it isn't optimized for this class of service. The scan speed is improved
- over the R7000, but it is a long way from a pro2006 in that capacity. This
- is fine with me as I use it for other purposes besides scanning the local
- police or fire etc.
-
- Like the R7000 it has the 10.7mhz IF output available through a backside mounted
- connector which I find very useful when connected to a spectrum display unit
- such as a spectrum analyzer etc.
-
- Like the R7000 it runs hot too when powered off of AC. I haven't tried it
- on DC power so I cannot comment on that. Unlike the R7000, all of the
- bandwidth controls are on the front, so you don't have to flip a switch on
- back to differentiate between wideband and mediumbandwidth FM. Also the
- sideband selector is also a front mounted switch to make it easier to toggle
- between LSB and USB.
-
- It is a fine receiver like the R7000 but not a scanner. To date I haven't
- had the opportunity to test its sensitivity with a an RF generator above
- 1GHZ, so I cannot comment on its performance there. It does well on FLTSATCOM
- action though. So at least in the 300mhz range it is very sensitive.
-

- I can't say for sure, but I can say that if you buy an R7100 in Germany, you
- will find this beautiful wideband receiver gutted to the extent that it will ]
- only tune the ham bands. That is right! 144, 220, 440, and 1.2gig bands only.
- Those creeps int he government will likely butcher up our band accessibility
- too. Don't wait until they dry up like the "assault rifles" did after the
- Stockton tragedy: buy yours today!
