  13. Regarding the derivation of the term HAM for radio amateur
  14. enthusiasts, JEB had it almost correct.  HAM was coined by
  15. a legendary British comedian called Tony Hancock.  Her had a 
  16. comedy series called "Hancocks Half Hour" in the early sixties
  17. which consisted of a series of sketches.  In one of these
  18. sketches he was a radio fanatic, and in the course of the sketch 
  19. he called himself a "radio hamateur", and the slang has stuck
  20. ever since.
