- An alternative to giving each dealer a grilling on the subject is to see what
- your local Police department/emergency-services people are driving, and
- buy the same. It is often possible to specify 'Police-spec' build when
- selecting your vehicle; these special-build variants usually come with the
- alternator, battery etc. uprated to handle the increased current drain of
- mobile radios, light-bars etc, and if you are lucky, may also include
- heavy-duty brakes & suspension.
- A colleague of mine just bought a Range-Rover; he chose a 'Fleetline'-spec.
- model as supplied to the UK police-forces. It was significantly cheaper than
- the standard model; (OK it lacked the sunroof, aircon and leather seats) but
- it *did* have an alternator with 50% greater output, an enormous battery,
- and a professionally-installed power harness just ideal for wiring radios to;
- it also had extra suppressors fitted to the spark-plugs.
