  12. [Summary for those who want the punch line: gimme a suggestion
  13. for a subject to shoot. I haven't seen one of the photo exchange
  14. thingies in a while, or I'd use its topic. Ya see, I just got this
  15. new 10S, and....]

  17. I have been ignoring the LONG chain about N90 versus 10S (I didn't
  18. even really notice the Subject line!) until recently. When I found
  19. myself looking to get back into 35mm (my FM2 and lenses was stolen
  20. a couple of months ago, and I got a Pentax 645 to play with and
  21. decided medium format wasn't my bag since I don't have darkroom and
  22. don't have patience to wait a week for developing and don't have
  23. beaucoup bucks for lenses for a 645!) I looked at the Nikon line and
  24. the Contax line.

  26. Contax, you'll recall, gets you access to Zeiss lenses. (Yum.) But
  27. they're pricey, at least as pricey as the 645 lenses I was bitchin'
  28. about.

  30. The dealer at Adolf Glasser in SF pointed my at the Canon line, and
  31. talked up the 10S. (He'd listened to me say "I want the ability to
  32. just let it do it all, or to let *ME* do it all.") Within 5-10
  33. minutes, I was sold, and they arranged to find one from another
  34. store.

  36. (In my eyes) the rec.photo string bears this out: to me, it seemed
  37. to say "if you are starting from scratch, the 10S is terrific; if
  38. you have an investment in lenses, the Canon direction ignores your
  39. investment, somewhat. Nikon doesn't do that to you, quite."

  41. So I now have a new 10S, a 25-80 zoom, and the Sunpak flash I had
  42. with the Pentax (replaced the adapter with a Canon one), and I've
  43. made a promise to myself:
  44.     *** NO NEW EQUIPMENT ***
  45. I figure that I should now spend "quality time" making pictures, not
  46. buying more toys. Experience is the best teacher, and all that.

  48. So given that I'm in San Francisco most of the time, and this is
  49. the equipment I have, gimme a couple of suggestions what to do a
  50. "photo essay" on. It's just for myself, but I figured I'd ask
  51. for ideas.

  54. N90 and the 10S. It was really helpful for me.
