- recently, i posted a note asking for good quality/low price sources for:
- 1) "5x7 processing" - develop a roll of 35mm film, make a 5x7 of each frame
- 2) "5x7 reprints" - print a 5x7 from an existing 35mm color negative
- here's a summary of the replies i've gotten and the checking i've done so far:
-
- mail order
-
- 1) mystic (800-367-6061) - recommended by netters.
- 5x7 processing - $12.90/24exp, $16.90/36exp. unfortunately, they tape
- a strip of paper to each negative during processing, which scares me.
- 5x7 reprints - $1.50. for reprints, they don't tape on the paper strips.
- 2) skrudland (512-444-0958) - enthusiastically recommended by netters.
- 5x7 processing - not clear if they'll do it; i'm still checking.
- 5x7 reprints - $1.25. i've ordered some reprints; haven't come back yet.
- 3) slideprinter (303-698-2962) - 5x7 print from slide - $1.75
-
- local (s.f. bay area)
-
- 1) pro labs (calypso, color plus, jp) - i've had calypso do 11x14's,
- and was pleased with the results. for 5x7's, pro labs charge 5X
- what a mail-order place or minilab charges.
- 2) kits (415-321-0321) - only local place i know that does 5x7 processing.
- mixed recommendation from the net.
- 5x7 processing - 12.60/24exp, 17.90/36 exp.
- 5x7 reprints - $1.00.
- 3) minilabs which i haven't yet contacted
- phototime, stanford - mixed recommendations.
- fotomaster, santa clara - insist on having haw lee do the work.
-
- conclusions so far
-
- 5x7 reprints - mail order prices are good; we'll see about quality shortly.
- 5x7 processing - kits looks like the only game in town, for now.
-
- i'm still looking, so please email any info you have.
-
- thanks.
