- A polarizing filter blocks polarized light. Light reflected from many
- surfaces (including atmosphere) is at least partially polarized. So,
- the polarizer is used to make things reflecting sunlight have less
- glare or look darker.

- The 81-series filters are simply coloured filters used to make things
- look "warmer"--orange like the quality of light around sunset. Very
- different!

- So if you're getting a lot of glare off the snow, you might try the
- polarizer. If you want it to look like it's closer to sunset than it
- really is, use the 81A.

- If your camera has a beam splitter, your light meter will probably be
- off if you use a linear polarizer. Whether you get over- or under-
- exposure depends on the angle of polarization.
