- One of my Miniature Schnauzers has decided that the skylight in our new
- bathroom is actually someone trying to break into the house. The skylight
- is installed on a slanted part of the ceiling, so when Josh looks up he
- sees himself reflected in the glass. Although he recognizes himself in
- the mirror, apparently this top view doesn't look familiar, so he barks.
- And barks. And the other dog (or whatever he thinks it is) doesn't go
- away so he barks again.
-
- What can I do to teach this silly dog that there's nothing up there? As
- far as I can tell, he recognizes people in the skylight, but not dogs
- (he barks at his reflection, and at that of Tucker, my other dog). The
- reflections are only bright enough for him to see at night, so that's the
- only time he goes into "skylight attack mode".
-
- Any ideas for how to explain this window to him? Or should I just work on
- training him not to bark in the bathroom?
-
- Please email suggestions since I doubt many other people have dogs who freak
- at the sight of a skylight.
-
- Thanks!
